Boys’ lacrosse team ties Viera in first-ever match

Sophomore Nick Hogan scored the first goal in West Shore lacrosse team history and Ian Chan scored two goals, including one that tied the score in the game’s waning moments as the team went on to tie Viera High School 7-7 at Viera High School on Monday.

Starter Tim Widere considered the outcome something of an upset considering that Viera has had a team for two years.

“It was definitely an exciting game,” the junior said. “We thought that we were going to go out there and get killed.”

Junior Shreeya Patel attended the game with low expectations for the team.

“I went in thinking that if we lost by 10, I would be more than happy,” she said.

Widere says the inaugural game bodes well of the season ahead.

“It was an amazing feeling even though we went in with really low standards,” he said. “Winning would have been better, but I couldn’t have seen it going any better.”
