Keeping a steady hand, senior Rachel Alba carefully transfers the lambda DNA in the micropipette into the assay plate. “First, you use the restriction enzyme to cut up the DNA,” Alba said. “After you incubated it, you’re able to look and analyze the bands under UV light. It’s my favorite lab because it’s more of a hands-on experiment instead of just sitting there and looking at pictures.” In addition to the electrophoresis lab, AP Biology students also studied the evolution of horses’ teeth and attended a UF basketball game.
