Tenali leads debate team in season opener

Sophomores Aalekhya Tenali, Tryphina Mikhail, Brittany Cho and junior Jennifer Garrido competed in the first round of the debate competition at Viera High School on Feb. 1 against schools in the district including, Rockledge and Palm Bay High School. Each team member argued two debates on how plea bargaining impacts the criminal justice system. The debates were done one-on-one in Lincoln-Douglas format.

Tenali won her two debates while Mikhail and Cho each won one debate.

“Actually debating was a lot different than I expected,” Tenali said. “Once I got into it, I had fun.”

The team will compete on Feb. 8 and 15 to complete the first round and the competitor who wins the most debates and has the most speaker points will proceed to the semifinals
