Purrfection’s first exhibition set for Saturday
The varsity dance team’s first exhibition performances are this Saturday, Dec. 7, at the FIT Clemente Center this Saturday at 12:45 and 2:00. They will receive feedback on their routines from judges at the competition, but will not be ranked among the other teams.
“It’s an exhibition to start off the competition season,” junior Alicia Ortiz said. “It’s another way to prepare us. It’ll be fun to see the other teams competing and seeing what the judges have to say.”
Junior Michelle Maldonado said the feedback really helps them improve.
“We still get feedback from the judges even though it’s an exhibition,” Maldonado said. “It’s nice so we’ll know what to fix for our actual competition in January.”
Most of the teams at this competition will be cheer teams, so Purrfection will not be placed. The team will perform one pom routine and another jazz routine.
“I’m excited because I think we’ve practiced enough and we’re well prepared,” Maldonado.
However, the stage may pose a problem for their performance.
“The flooring is a felt material, and with the turns we have to do, it makes it really hard to compete,” Ortiz said.
Maldonado agrees.
“Our jumps will be really good because it’s a spring floor, but our turns will be really hard,” she said. “We have some difficult turn combinations this year.”
Still, the girls are optimistic about the competition.
“Based off of our performance at the game on Tuesday I know we’re going to perform great at FIT,” senior Stephanie Everest said.
