Publication students receive notice

Seniors Rachel Kershaw and Jaclyn Martin each won first place for photography and junior Valerie Ferretti took first for feature writing at the Florida Scholastic Press Association District 3 Workshop on Saturday.

Seventeen West Shore journalism students joined approximately 100 others to receive training in print, online and broadcast journalism at the University of Central Florida Nicholson School.

West Shore Publication staffers also took Best in Show honors in the Literary Magazine, Website and Yearbook categories, while Oviedo High School took Best in Show in the Newspaper division.

“I am so happy for these kids,” publications adviser Mark Schledorn said. “They’ve all worked hard to maintain a longstanding tradition of excellence in our journalism department. These honors simply show that their work is being noticed beyond the campus level.”
