Principal seeks competition in 5K

Principal Rick Fleming will be participating in the United Way of Brevard’s “Beat the Leader” 5K run/ 2 mile walk fundraiser which will take place on Feb. 18 at Coconuts on the Beach in Cocoa Beach at 9 a.m. Registration for the event will be at 8 a.m. and costs $20, half of which will go to the United Way.

“The United Way is a wonderful organization that benefits so many different and worthy causes in our community,” Fleming said. “ To name a couple: the Second Harvest Food Bank and the Brevard County Sharing Center, which both provide food for the homeless and needy, and during these hard economic times those have increased significantly. As well as some things such as the Rape Crisis Program and the Bridges Program which helps mentally-challenged adults. ”

Fleming is on the United Way of Brevard Cabinet Committee and has contacted all the school principals in the county to join in the race. Four have responded and agreed to participate. Fleming encourages students and parent to join as well and try to “Beat the Leader.”
