Pasta for Pennies begins Feb. 11

An Olive Garden lunch may be in the near future for one fourth-period class. Olive Garden’s annual Pasta For Pennies fund-raiser will begin Feb. 11 and last for two to three weeks. The spare change donated by students and faculty in more than 2,700 schools across the country will benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s School & Youth campaign. The National Junior Honor Society will supply each fourth-period class with a box to collect money.

“It’s always a pleasure to help people in need,” said freshman Lauren Novak, vice president of NJHS. “At the end of the day, little fund-raisers like this make a huge difference in this world.”

The fourth-period class that raises the most money will receive an Olive Garden lunch.

“West Shore is the kind of school where something like this will flourish,” said freshman Smirti Sanjay-Gopal, president of NJHS. “Students at West Shore donate without expecting anything, so with the incentive of the free lunch, I definitely think that the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society will benefit.”
