Parent-teacher conferences set for Nov. 7

Parent-Teacher Conferences have been scheduled for Nov. 7. The conferences give teachers the chance to talk with parents privately about student grades and class participation, and what the parents can do to help their children do better in the class.

Algebra teacher Melissa Henderson said she finds the conference beneficial.

“The meeting usually only lasts 10-12 minutes,” Henderson said. “The parents come in, we go over the student’s grades together and give them advice on how to improve.”

Latin teacher Maria Petosa sees the conferences as a way to foster improvement within each student.

“It makes sure the parent and teacher are collaborating to make sure the kids succeed,” Petosa said. “The parents feel more comfortable about the class.”

The event is hosted by the PTA, which eases the conference process by providing dinner for teachers beforehand. The PTA encourages parents and students to help by donating desserts, Wal-Mart, Publix, or Target gift cards to help purchase food and supplies.
