NJHS to sponsor military supply drive

The National Junior Honor Society is planning a school-wide military supply drive in which students donate basic necessities such as razors, shaving cream, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes and facial wipes. The drive will kick off in early December. An ice cream party will be held Dec. 20 for the home room in each grade that has collected the most supplies.

NJHS Historian Amanda Moscrip is encouraging student participation.

“I think it’s a great idea to buy things for the people that served our country,” she said. “But I really hope that students will participate in this cause. I think that parents participate more than kids in these types of things. I hope students step up this time to bring toothbrushes and other necessities to home room boxes.”

Freshman Shane Potter plans to take part in the drive.

“My brother is in the military,” he said. “It’s not the hours you put in, its what you put in the hours.”

NJHS Vice President Rana Karycki agreed with Potter’s assessment of the military.

“It’s important we support the troops because they have done so much for us, providing us protection,” she said. “This military drive is one way we can show them our appreciation for what they have been doing, not just for us, but for our country.”
