Swift’s latest release draws mixed reviews

After a three-year hiatus, pop star Taylor Swift recently released her sixth album “Reputation,” and freshman Jane Theofildes couldn’t be happier.

“I’m so excited [about Taylor Swift’s concert] because this is my fourth time seeing her,” she said. “She’s my favorite person ever, and I’m pretty close to the stage this time. I love the new Taylor. I know a lot of people don’t like her because she’s changed a lot, but I feel like it’s a good change. I love the album. I think it’s the best album that she’s written so far because every lyric that’s written gets better and better and it just tells a story. I’ve listened to it on repeat for the last month.”

Sophomore Meerab Shaazad shares Theofildes’ sentiment.

“I think her new album is the best she’s ever put out because the songs correlate with each other,” she said. “They tell a very good story about her past two years.”

Freshman Kathe Schrader said she wishes she didn’t have to wait so long for Swift’s concert tour to reach Florida next August.

“I’m excited about going,” she said. “I’m kind of bummed that it is in like a year, but that gives me time to memorize all of the songs. I have mixed feelings about her album, but I mainly like it.”

Sophomore Devin Thrush said she’s no longer a Swift fan.

“I haven’t really listened to [the new album],” she said. “I used to like Taylor Swift a lot but now I feel like the stuff she writes is kind of childish.”

“Reputation continues Swift’s move to an edgier pop-based sound that started with 2014’s “1989” release.

“You know the new album is OK,” freshman Karlyn Mann said. “I kind of don’t like how everyone is just jumping on her bandwagon right now. [Swift] was cool in her country era and now everyone is like, you know what, I’m just going to jump on the bandwagon because everyone loves her now, and she’s all cool and isn’t following anyone on Instagram. Everyone is like ‘Taylor Swift, ya cool, are you ‘Ready for It.'”

Freshman Kaliyah Hody said rapper Kayne West’s public feud with Swift has helped make “Reputation” the best-selling album of 2017.

“Kanye was pretty chill before he had to expose Taylor Swift,” Hody said “But after Taylor swift got publicized by Kanye, now she is like the best thing ever.”
