West Shore’s homecoming isn’t scheduled until Sept. 28, but that didn’t stop Wildcats from attending Melbourne or Eau Gallie high schools’ homecoming on Saturday.

“Mel High’s homecoming Saturday should be really fun,” junior Grace Alcock said before the dance. “Me and a couple friends are going, so I’m looking forward to it.”

But sophomore Robert Madden won’t be attending homecoming at any school other than his own.

“I think it’s dumb because you waste a lot of money to go to those homecomings, when you don’t even go there,” he said.

Part of the draw of attending other homecoming dances is a less-restrictive atmosphere, according to junior Angela Ahern.

“I went to Mel High’s homecoming,” she said.  “I know a lot of people there so it was good to see them. [The Mel High] administration is also pretty relaxed, so that’s always nice too.”

Although some were excited to attend other homecoming dances, sophomore Fletcher Coard said he he didn’t see the point.

“I’m not going to another school’s homecoming,” he said. “I really would rather spend my time doing something other than just partying.”
