‘Music Man Jr.’ to debut Friday

All seventh- and eighth-grade students will released from second period Friday to view a special performance of the middle-school spring musical “The Music Man Jr.”

Students who are part of the play will miss their first- through third-period classes. The show will run without an intermission and audience members will report to their third-period classes after the play concludes.

The story follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he promises to organize.

Patti Gates, who is designing costumes for the production, said she’s excited to see the finished product.

“I always love working with middle schoolers because it is the start of what they are going to be doing all through their time here,” she said. “It takes a lot of courage standing on stage in front of everyone. It is a really good learning experience.”

A second performance is scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium.
