Middle-school cast prepares its wands for Saturday musical
November 17, 2017
The middle-school cast of “Sally Cotter and the Censored Stone” is getting its wands ready and robes cleaned for the two performances on Saturday. The cast feels a bit of pressure as the days count down. Previously, director Maureen Fallon has used three plays and repeated a cycle of them but this year, she has a new spell to cast on the audience.
“It’s a parody of Harry Potter, and it’s a trilogy actually. It’s very middle school. It’s very silly, so we’ll see how it works out,” Fallon said. “We’ll probably use the next two [of the trilogy] for the following years.”
Eighth-grader Madison M. has been cast as the lead.
“All the main characters, if you’re a Harry Potter person, you can relate to. Instead of Hermione, there’s Harmonica. Instead of Ron, there’s Dave. Instead of Sally Cotter, it’s Harry Potter, things like that.” Fallon said. “Everyone’s in a house and there’s goofy things,”
Seventh-grader, Shane W., said he’s looking forward to performing, but is feeling uneasy about being prepared.
“I don’t think the cast is ready,” he said Wednesday. “We have three more practices, so we have to get it down.”
Shane, who plays a student in the Frog Bull dormitory said he’s ready, but is concerned about others in the show.
“I’m not really nervous but the cast is.” Shane said. “Sally has around 140 lines, so we’ll see how it goes.”
