West Shore XC excels at UF

Senior Austin Camps (16:46, 5K)  finished 13th overall out of 315 runners to lead the boys’ varsity cross-country team to a 15th-place finish out of 75 teams at the UF Mountain Dew Invitational on Saturday.

Sophomore Christian Camps (17:27, 5K), senior Grant Gibson (18:21, 5K) and sophomore Ben Pinfield (18:52, 5K) all ran personal best times, in spite of challenging conditions.

“The race conditions were better than last year, but it was still very hot, and the course was hilly,” junior Jarad Hayes said.

The high school races were divided into seeded and unseeded races for both the boys. The West Shore boys competed in the seeded race and finished 15th overall out of 45 teams. When combined with the unseeded race, they finished 15th out of 75 teams. According to Coach Greg Hayes, West Shore was anticipated to finish 29th, so he was very pleased with their times.
