Vega’s watercolor takes Best of Show at art exhibition

Junior Marissa Vega won Best of Show for her watercolor painting titled “Blissful Flight,” senior Jeffrey Dickens placed first in computer graphics with “See Thru,” and junior Victoria Heuston’s graphite “Reflection” received third place at the 12th Annual Young Artists Juried Exhibition on Sunday.

In addition, senior Omayra Caban, junior Meagan Larsen and sophomore Aalekhya Tenali each earned Merit Awards for their entries.

“The artwork showed a wide variety of creativity and ambition,” presiding judge Jean Evans Thomas said. “ The students tackled all media, from wire sculpture to digital painting. Additional awards included traditional drawing techniques using value and line to metal relief sculpture. Much of the merit in students’ pieces is their fearlessness to try new approaches.”

The show – sponsored by the Strawbridge Art League – was held at the Henegar Center for the ARTS in downtown Melbourne.
