Track team heads north for first meet

The track and field team will be competing in its first meet of the season today at Astronaut High School in Titusville.

“This meet will be the longest — after districts, of course,” Coach Sue Gregory said.

Fourteen schools including Astronaut, Titusville, Cocoa Beach, Cocoa High and Holy Trinity, are scheduled to attend.

Gregory said that while it’s unlikely the Wildcats will place as a team because of their small numbers, she does expect individual victories.

“That’s just a fact of life,” she said.

Because the track meet is being held on the same day as the boys’ soccer state finals, some runners will not attend the meet.

“This is a huge deal,” sophomore Lexi Krehbiel said. “It’s a bummer they’re on the same night. If my dad weren’t a coach, I don’t know what I would pick.”
