Space Coast girls’ soccer prepares for Disney

U-17 Space Coast girls soccer team will be participating in Disney’s Wide World of Sports Qualifier in Orlando during Labor Day weekend.

“The showcase is going to be very important to the juniors and seniors on the team because there will be a lot of college recruiters looking for girls to play for them,” Melbourne High School sophomore Katie Reed said.

The team has been practicing more than usual to prepare for the event, but because of Florida’s unreliable weather they have missed some practices. The girls will be playing three games, two on Saturday and one on Sunday. The top two finishers in each age group will earn an automatic entry into Disney’s Soccer Showcase in December, and the winners will be guaranteed a spot in the top flight.

“Last year we didn’t make it to the December showcase, so this year we are really focused on what we want and we will get it,” junior Erin Berube said.
