Girls’ lacrosse team defeats Cocoa Beach High School 11–5

The girl’s lacrosse team beat Cocoa Beach 11–5 on March 6, marking the team’s first win of the season.

“It was hard having played three of some of the best teams early in the season, so this win brightened everyone’s spirit,” junior Cameron Coalter said.

Coalter said the team’s efforts at practice paid off.

“During practice, the team worked hard on fundamentals and different plays for offense, which greatly helped us improve,” Coalter said.

Coalter said her coaches help uplift her when things go downhill at games.

“Our coaches ensure I do my best by helping me stay positive and encouraging me,” Coalter said. “I’m very competitive, so I tend to get in my head a lot and blame myself if we’re losing.”

Freshman Lauren Bender said that the team does best when they play as a team.

“I feel like we improved mostly by understanding how each other plays at practice,” Bender said.

The team participates in bonding activities to strengthen their relationships and encourage one another before they play. The girls’ next game is scheduled for March 11 at home against Melbourne High School at 6 p.m.

“I would say it’s the best team bond I’ve had in all five years of playing,” Coalter said. “Before games as a team, we sometimes get food somewhere and just hang out before we get on the field.”
