Girls’ lacrosse defeated by Viera High School 17–3

The girls’ lacrosse team faced Viera and was defeated 17–3 on March 20. The team has two more games, and possibly districts, left in its season. The girls’ next game is an away game against Holy Trinity on April 1 at 6 p.m.

“Even though we lost, I honestly felt proud that we played so hard and worked well as a team,” freshman Lauren Bender said. “We still had a positive attitude after the game and had fun.”

Junior Cameron Coalter said that the effort the team puts in will determine how their season ends.

“The team will accomplish many skills by just showing up to practice and putting in the effort,” Coalter said. “Fundamentals are a big factor in how we play, and putting in the work will only make them better.”

Coalter said she and some of her teammates have planned to meet up during spring break to practice.

“As a team, we don’t have practice over break; however, Coach [Corey] Burton highly encourages us to meet up and practice, which we plan to do,” Coalter said.

Freshman Luna Stieber said she needs to stay focused at practice to get through the rest of the season with more wins.

“We have to continue practicing and not joke off,” Stieber said. “We do need to work on more fundamentals but also need to not get too mental during our games.”

Coalter said her biggest defeats occurred when she didn’t have her full attention during the games.

“The biggest defeat for me had to be either Edgewood or Melbourne,” Coalter said. “I just wasn’t in the right mindset during the game and psyched myself out.”
