Club volleyball team practicing in school gym

Now that the basketball seasons are coming to an end, South Brevard Spirit Volleyball Club has taken advantage of the open gym by renting space and holding practices there.

“We had to get approval from [Assistant Principal] Jim Melia, who’s in charge of facilities, then fill out paperwork from the school board for insurance reasons. We rent it by the hour from there,”  Spirit coach Niki Anagnostis said. “We use it two to three times a week depending on whether we have a tournament or not. We won’t use it on Sundays because we won’t be here.”

The club usually practices at the volleyball facility at Harbor City Gymnastics on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

“I definitely like the West Shore gym better than Harbor City because it’s bigger and we have more room to actually scrimmage and run game-like drills,” Spirit player Jessica Smith said.
