Boys set school record in playoff victory

Evan Lanier scored 23 points and Keegan Schauman added 13 to help the Wildcats set the school record for victories in a season at 17 and defeat Astronaut 60-42 in the Class 5A District 7 quarterfinal Tuesday night in Cocoa. The Wildcats last won a playoff game in 2009. The team will take on Holy Trinity in the semifinal game tonight.

“We need to take the game one possession at a time,” junior Khalil Paul said. “If we limit our turnovers and get back on defense we can win the game.”

Although playing a team such as Holy Trinity is a large task, the boys say they are up for the challenge.

“It will be my first varsity game against them due to multiple injuries, so I’m pumped,” senior Ayden Lew said. “But just the thought of it possibly being my last game makes me want to go harder because I never want it to end.”

The game will tip off at  5:30 p.m. in the Cocoa High School gym.
