Runners travel for Fleet Feet Invitational

Striving for improvement, the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams will travel to Stuart on Saturday to compete against some of the best teams in the state. The Fleet Feet Invitational will begin at 8 a.m with the start of the varsity girls’ race, followed by the varsity boys at 8:35 a.m. and finishing off with the girls’ junior varsity at 9 a.m. and the boys’ junior varsity at 9:45 a.m.

“We went to the Fleet Feet Invitational many years back, when I was in seventh grade and haven’t been back since, so I’m pretty excited to compete in Stuart again,” varsity captainJacob Smithe  said. “It’ll be a nice change from the typical schedule of meets each season.”

Thirty-five schools will be competing in the Invitational, making it one of the largest and most competitive meets this season.

“It’ll be the first meet of the season that the entire team will be present,” Smithe said. “There has been so much going on lately which has caused conflict with the schedule of meets this season with ACT testing, sickness, injuries and prior commitments. “It should be a competitive meet, and a good chance to see where my training is at compared to other exceptional runners in the state.”
