Repeat bid falls short with regional loss

The boys’ soccer team’s quest to repeat as Class 2A state champions ended at Bishop Moore on Wednesday night with a 2-1 loss to the Hornets. Senior captain Tyler Moscrip scored the single goal in the first round of regional playoffs. The teams were tied 1-1 at halftime, but the Hornets came through and scored their second goal with around 15 minutes left in the game. The loss ended the Wildcats’ season with an overall record of 14-5-4.

“I believe there was nothing else we could have done,” Moscrip said. “We stuck to the game plan for the most part, we were just a bit unlucky. The game could have really gone either way, they just had the upper hand.”

This loss means that last year’s state champions will not advance to Saturday’s regional semifinals.

“I think we definitely outplayed them,” senior Liam Wixted said. “We had majority of the possession of the ball and had our fair opportunities to score, but we just couldn’t finish them. It’s depressing that this is the end of our season because last night could have gone our way easily so it’s hard to grasp the idea of it all being over.”
