Quill and Scroll inducts new members
The induction ceremony for Quill and Scroll will occur on May 7 at 3:45 p.m. in the media center. Quill and Scroll, a.k.a. International Journalism Honors Society, helps students interested in journalism to improve and utilize their skills.
“It’s great because you’ve joined a group of people with similar interests,” current Quill and Scroll president Stephanie Everest said. “We put on fund-raisers to help support journalism and to further journalism throughout the school.”
Housed at the University of Iowa, Quill and Scroll in an international organization, as opposed to National Honors Society, which is just within the United States. Inductees will have to meet the requirements of being a second-semester sophomore, having been published and maintaining at least a 3.5 GPA.
“The main purpose is to find the best-of-the-best journalists as far as their academic standing,” Quill and Scroll sponsor Mark Schledorn said. “It’s actually harder to get into Quill and Scroll than it is to NHS because you have to be in the upper one-third of your class GPA. We need really smart people to be journalists.”
