Princess puts her own spin on Prom dress

For senior Natalie Garden, Prom is a time when she gets to feel like a queen.

“It was hard to find a dress that fit my vision in person,” Garden said. “I bought my dress off Amazon, which I was a little nervous about, since I did not know if it would fit me.”

Garden applied her own creativity to her dress, even sewing in a hoop skirt with the help of her grandmother.

“I was so happy with the way my dress turned out,” Garden said. “I loved the color, and I was glad I was able to alter it in order for it to be exactly what I wanted.”

Garden, who was nominated for Prom Court with her boyfriend, senior Diego Alvarez, garnered the attention of Prom attendees, including fellow senior Sasha Girard.

“I really loved her dress,” Girard said. “It was so detailed and different from the typical dresses you see at Prom.”

Although Garden did not win Prom Queen, Girard believes the competition is little more than a formality.

“I feel like Prom Court is unnecessary,” Girard said. “Of course it is a tradition, but naming one couple ‘the best’ takes away from just having fun.”
