Powerlifting team trains for upcoming meet

The powerlifting team is starting to hit the gym in preparation for the Dec. 10 meet at Lifepoint Church in Palm bay.

“The kids have to lift three times a week and not three days in a row,” Coach Spero Tshontikidis said.

With the meet coming up, sophomore lifter Jacob Kent anticipates a successful season.

“As long as everyone is consistent on working out before the meet, then we will most likely reach all of our goals and do well,” he said. “This year I would like to squat 270. I want to bench 165, and I want to dead lift 310. But I’m not so sure right now because I’m recovering from an injury.”

Tshontikidis also has some personal goals.

“We lost a lot of seniors, so I want to recruit five to 10 new lifters,” he said.
