Orchestras to perform at lunchtime in the commons

The orchestra class will be performing for their first time this year in the school commons area today. Beginning orchestra has been scheduled to perform during first lunch and symphonic orchestra is scheduled to play during second and third lunches.

“I am very excited that orchestra students are finally going to have an opportunity to perform,” symphonic orchestra director Melanie Richardson said. “I find that knowing that there will be a performance is a great motivator for musicians not only to practice and work on their craft, but also excite them about the music they are playing.”

One of Richardson’s students, Maya S. (8) said everyone is looking forward to the performance.

“I honestly can’t wait, I love to play for other people, especially Christmas carols,” she said. “Some people in class are a little nervous for the first performance this year.”

String specialist Laura Pinfield said that the performance will be just the in-person learners, but the e-learners can play along from home.

“I will not be playing with the class,” e-learner Eliza H.(8) said, “but if I was, I think I would be pretty nervous. The songs that we have been playing are pretty hard, but the class seems like they have it down.”

Pinfield said she wishes e-learners could join the in-person learners.

“We truly look forward to the day when our ensembles can include all of our talented musicians and live on stage,” she said, “as performance is essential in order to realize the process.”
