The school orchestra’s annual Winter Concert was held Tuesday at Eau Gallie High School. Five orchestras played a variety of classical and modern pieces, including classics such as “Sleigh Ride,” and “Festive Sounds of Hanukkah,” and new pieces such as “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”

“I really think the performance went spectacular,” said junior Jacob Blair, concert-master of the second-highest orchestra.  “This year [we] were more relaxed, and it really showed through our work.”

Blair said he personally performed better this year than at previous concerts.

“Last year, being concert master, I was really nervous, and this year I felt more relaxed,” he said.

Junior Harrison Luu, who is also in the second-highest orchestra, concurred with Blair’s assessment.

“I think the performance went well, as with every year,” Luu said. “The other orchestras were very nice [as well]. It was really nice to see the hard work of such talented young musicians.”

For the past four years, West Shore has held its orchestra concerts at other high schools. This year the concert was held in Eau Gallie High’s auditorium.

“I don’t really mind it being held at Eau Gallie,” Blair said. “It’s better because there are so many people that go, it would be so crammed inside of West Shore.” 

Harrison also agreed that playing at Eau Gallie was OK, but he said that playing in a different school “would be a nice change.”
