Night of Broadway set for Thursday

The drama department will play host to Night of Broadway this Thursday in the auditorium.

“What I like is it’s not a competition,” freshman Sara Tennant said. “It’s just an event to get to have fun and do something from Broadway that you really love.”

Students will be performing musical numbers from any Broadway show. They get to choose their own material as long as it follows that rule, and keep the performance school appropriate.

“It’s one of the few times they can perform whatever they like,” director Maureen Fallon said.

Tennant is performing “It’s Been a Long Day” from “How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying,” with fellow freshmen Chase Radel and Evy Sotolongo.

Because they do whatever they like, that means they’re on their own schedule. There aren’t set dates to practice in the auditorium like there are for high school or all school musicals. This gives students more freedom, but also makes preparation harder, according to Tennant.

“Well it is difficult seeing that we are high schoolers, and we procrastinate,” she said. “But if you really want to do it, then you get around to practicing. We [Radel and Sotolongo] practiced after school a few days after we all learned words on our own.”

Night of Broadway will be performed Thursday at 7 p.m.
