NHS accepting fall applications

Seniors interesting in joining National Honor Society must apply by 3:45 p.m. on Sept. 14 as they will not be eligible for induction during second semester. Juniors and sophomores also may apply before the deadline. Application forms are available in the front office.

Applicants will be evaluated in four areas: scholarship, leadership, service and character and are required to list their extracurricular activities along with basic information such as name, grade and homeroom teacher on the form.

“I think it’s a great thing to be able to put on my college applications,” sophomore Jonathan Wakim, who added that he sees NHS as beneficial to the community.

In addition to completing the application, prospective members must ask their teachers to complete an evaluation form that must be turn in directly to NHS sponsor Missy Henderson by Sept. 12.

Henderson assumed sponsorship at the beginning of the school year after science teacher Sherie Jenkins gave up the position in order to oversee a new educational program.
