Music Students prepare for All-County auditions

Music students are preparing for their upcoming auditions for All-County band, chorus and orchestra. Chorus auditions are scheduled for Oct. 18 and 19, with middle school auditions at Kennedy Middle School and high school auditions at Viera High School. Orchestra auditions are scheduled for Oct. 18 at Rockledge High School, and band auditions are scheduled for Nov. 9 at Viera High School.

I am so glad that we have a big crop of students wanting to audition,” chorus director Amy Stephens said. “I’m really excited about them. I think that they’ve got a good chance, just making sure that they keep a steady head when they go in for their audition and recording.”

Band director Justin Snively said that his students have done well in past years with getting into All-County Band.

“Last year we had a couple of trombone players, a bassoonist, as well as a saxophone and a flute player make it in, and they were pretty solid players,” Snively said. “They all deserved to make it in, and then we had one student make it into the All-County Jazz Band as well.”

Violinist and sophomore Peyton Haney, who has played in the All-County Orchestra three times before, said that she does All-County to help her odds of getting into college.

If I’m doing a double major, I want to look good on my resume,” Haney said. “It’s a great opportunity. You get to play with better players and gain more experience.”
