Latin Club prepares for Regionals

Latin students across the district will be gathering at Holy Trinity on Jan. 27 for Latin Regionals.

Latin teacher Jennifer Staton is preparing her students for the event using various resources.

“They have study guides online, and they can make their creatives, which can be paintings, drawings, videos or anything else like that,” Staton said.

Students create creatives or projects to further study the category of Latin culture they chose to cover.

“Depending on what type of project you selected, you make an art piece about it,” Ezra Yoro, a freshman in Latin club, said. “It can be based on Greek or Roman mythology, history or architecture.”

At Regionals, students compete over assorted tests that they prepared for and the art pieces they designed.

“The students either study for one or two tests on varying topics like Roman history, mythology, culture, vocab [and] grammar, or they do a creative,” Staton said.

Students have the chance to explore the event and interact with other kids from different schools after finishing their tests.

“We do fun activities and have a chance to walk around and view the projects,” freshman August Terry said.  “At the end of the day, they announce the awards for the projects and for the best test scores.”

Terry said she looks forward to going to Regionals again.

“My drawing took me about a week to create, and it was really cool seeing it on display,” Terry said. “All of the other projects were really neat and inspiring for future art pieces. I’m really excited for this year’s project and hope it is just as successful as last year.”
