At the Career Fair on Oct. 20, students will watch presentations from experts to introduce them to various careers. College and Career Specialist Angela Feldbush is in charge of the event.
“We’ve had a couple cancellations and a couple of additions, but we’ve had great response from the parents,” Feldbush said. “We really have a fantastic variety of speakers.”
Students will rotate from classroom to classroom for the first four periods, changing rooms according to the early release bell schedule. They will have homeroom after the first four periods to evaluate, and typical instruction will resume for the last three periods.
The experts for each subgroup of career are made up of parent volunteers presenting for volunteer hours.
“I’m excited about what [the parent volunteers] have to say to the kids because I think it’s going to help them to really understand some of their choices,” Feldbush said.
The event has been hosted in other schools regularly, but it is the first year most West Shore students will experience the fair. It was recently required by state law to be conducted in school. The career fairs conducted in most schools in the district act as a job fair to encourage interest in college. According to sophomore Hlla Waregh, the fair will give students a taste for what work life is like in different environments.
“I think that it is a smart idea and that it will likely affect students very positively,” Waregh said. “It is also a really good chance for us students to ask questions of someone who is already in that field.”
