As the school’s spalling project progresses, administration has reported new updates.
New support beams have been installed to sustain spalling areas that have been found to be worse than anticipated, including the areas near the cafeteria and Building 4.
“[Last weekend], when the workers power-washed the section [near the cafeteria], they found a big spall that needed to be repaired, so they put two support brackets up and barricaded that area so nobody could walk on top of it, and it could stay safe until it could get fixed,” Assistant Principal Catherine Halbuer said. “Usually for a big chuck like that, they have to [replace] 18 inches of concrete on both sides, put epoxy in and refill it. But we’re probably going to have an engineer come out and look at it for the best way to fix it.”
Additionally, remaining locations that must still be repaired are the front of the school and areas near building five and six. Halbuer said that once spalling repairs throughout the school have been completed, painters will be scheduled to come in and repaint the areas. He said he hopes the spalling project will be completed by May.
“I believe the painting won’t take too long,” Principal Rick Fleming said. “It’s likely that they’ll do much of it on a weekend.”
