Mu Alpha Theta members recently have participated in competitions, taking two 30-minute timed tests with six questions each. Currently, the cumulative score leaders are junior Rashad Abdulla, freshman Esha Bansal, sophomore Ian Chan and sophomore Lexie Krehbiel.
Mu Alpha Theta members take tests throughout the year and accrue points so they can place nationally. In addition, non-members sometimes receive permission slips to leave their club meetings in order to take individual tests and receive extra credit in their math classes.
“Everyone gets out of NHS because of this,” junior Sarah Simonian said. “But math competitions form a strong basis on how to work as a team and collaborate effectively. And the extra credit is an added bonus.”
