MS girls top Edgewood to make playoffs

When Becky V.’s game-winning shot fell through the net to upend Edgewood 29-27 in overtime Tuesday night, the middle school Lady Wildcats’ basketball team clinched a playoff spot for a second consecutive year.

West Shore improved to 7-1 on the season, while Edgewood has yet to win a game.

Head Coach Lauren Fisher is excited about her team and how they’ve come together.

“The girls are all coming so far, and I am so proud of them,” Fisher said via email. “We play Cocoa Beach this Thursday and are very hopeful.”

As the girls head into the playoffs, they hope to lose the shadow of last year’s team, which went 10-0 in the regular season but failed to win a postseason game.

“Almost everybody on the roster has scored,” Fisher said. “And all of them are exceeding expectations and working extremely hard and well together”

The Lady Wildcats hope to continue their seven-game winning streak against Cocoa Beach in their final regular season game before their first playoff game next Tuesday.
