The Math Counts team will defend its District Championship at the school board offices in Viera on Feb. 26.
“We want to successfully defend our District Championship and become only the second school in our district to defend their title. We also want to improve on our state competition ranking from last year,” team coach and math teacher Steve Thomas said.
To that end, the team takes the best math in the school and engages in various competitions with other schools throughout the year. Members meet on Tuesdays from 8 a.m.-8:40 a.m. in Room 4-202.
The team takes the best math students in the school and takes part in various competitions with other schools throughout the year. Those students are Esha Bansal, Connor Courtney, Hunter Schwartz, Shelley Mitchell, Caleb Bryant, Srimayi Tenali, Chris Melchiori and Naeem Motlagh. These middle-schoolers meet for practice on Tuesday mornings from 8:00-8:40 in Room 4-202.
“It’s a lot of fun, but a lot of hard work also. It’s all worth it when we do well, and I hope we can defend our title from last year,” Bryant said.
