Lightning ends lacrosse game early

They boys’ lacrosse game ended at half time Friday due to stormy weather conditions.  The Wildcats trailed Melbourne Central Catholic 15-0 when the decision was made to call the game early.

“It was an OK game. It was canceled at the beginning of the third quarter due to lightning,” sophomore Jack Moore said. “My dad said in the stands people’s hair was starting to stick up from the weather.”

Weather conditions started off playable but slowly grew worse as the night wore on.

“It was fine for a while but then towards the end of the second half the lightening started to kick in,” sophomore Ryan Bellone said. “Usually lacrosse can be played in rain just not lightning.”

As for the game, the Wildcats continue to have problems defending the goal.

“We just need to pick it up and play better as a team,” junior Ethan Miles said. “MCC played a good game. We have some holes in our defensive plays that need to be worked on which is why they scored so much.”

The boys anticipated that the game was going to be tough, but never gave up.

“Going in there we knew they were a good team, and we had a challenge,” Bellone said.
