Lacrosse prepares to face rivals
Both boys’ and girls’ lacrosse are scheduled to play the Melbourne High School Bulldogs on Thursday night at Melbourne High School. Since lacrosse was introduced to West Shore several years ago, a rivalry has developed between the Wildcat and Bulldog lacrosse teams.
“Our team has always competed with Mel High,” senior goalie Jack Moore said. “Nearly every game we’ve played with them has been close, physical, and exciting. Last year, we beat them on their senior night, so they’re seeking vengeance tonight. We are really looking forward to playing them because it should be a great game; it always is when we face-off against each other.”
Not only do the Lady Wildcats have a rivalry with the Bulldogs as well, but they are competing for the top spot in their district, increasing the tension.
“After our big win last night against Sebastian River, tonight really determines if we’ll be first in our district,” senior defender Kayley Lew said. “Both Mel High and us are undefeated in our district, so whoever wins tonight will clinch the top spot in the district. It’s going to be a really exciting game with a lot at stake for both teams.”
The boys’ game begins at 5:30, followed by the girls’ game at 7:00.
