JV girls shut out Eau Gallie 8-0

The junior varsity girls’ soccer team won its season-opener 8-0 Thursday night against Eau Gallie. The game was called early due to the mercy rule which ends a match if one team gets up by eight goals. By halftime the girls were up by 6, and shortly after they scored another two.

“Eau Gallie was a pretty easy team,” Kate B. (8) said. “Their defense didn’t really step to any balls, and when the defense got it they just gave us a bunch of corner kicks which is how we scored a few goals.”

The team had other ways of scoring other than just their corner kicks.

“We scored a lot off of breakaways from our forwards and from our wings crossing the ball for our midfield,” Katie said.

London B. (8) made her high-school, playing the whole game in a forward or midfield position.

“I was a bit nervous at the beginning of the game, but the whole experience was fun,” she said. “I enjoyed playing with my [new] teammates and am looking forward to a good season.”

Still, London lamented missed opportunities.

“I definitely feel like we could have taken more shots and aim for the corners of the goal more,” she said. “[Also] we panicked a little once the ball was in our defensive half.”
