Junior to attend Harvard program

Junior Zuri Lawrence soon will be getting the feel of college life at the Harvard School Summer Program.

Lawrence will be staying at the Harvard campus from June 22 to Aug. 10. During her stay she will be taking an eight credit biology course that she hopes will get her the experience she needs to be accepted into her college of choice.

“I thought it’d be a great experience and would look fantastic when I apply to Johns Hopkins senior year,” she said. “I want to be a neurosurgeon, and I know that the program is very long so the sooner that I can finish my undergrad the better.”

The program which costs an average of $10,690 includes room and board fees for one eight-credit course or two four-credit courses.

“I’ve applied to so many grants and scholarships from private companies to be able to go, and I’m so excited that I got this opportunity,” she said.
Applicants for the Harvard Program come from all over the world including China, India, and states across the U.S. According to Lawrence there are only about 1,000 people picked for the program each summer.

While the prospect of experiencing the college life is exciting for Lawrence, she is also looking forward to seeing Boston for the first time.

“I can’t wait to go shopping,” she said. “I’ll probably sit in the subway for hours just riding to different stops and seeing all of the different sites.”
