The jazz band solo and ensemble participants received an excellent ranking for their performance at state March 25.

“They did great as a whole,” jazz band teacher Carol Allen said.

Junior Jack Goffinet said solo and ensemble did well over all.

“We got time off because of our song,” he said. “The judges also said we shouldn’t have improvised solos.”

Sophomore Alex Colon expressed disappointment for the ranking the group received.

“Our judge did not like the artist who wrote the song we played,” Colon said. “He said Miles Davis is a horrible trumpet player, so obviously that was no help to our cause. I felt we were deserving of a superior overall, but we were given an excellent. It was a real letdown.”
