On Dec. 7, the 10th grade homerooms started playing in a kickball tournament. Every Friday students in 10th grade will go out to the soccer field and play kickball, where one team tries to score by having its players kick a ball from home base out towards the field and then circle the bases while the other team tries to stop them by either by catching the ball or tagging them “out” with the ball before they can return to the home base.

Athena Pietrzak, 10th grade homeroom teacher, came up with the idea.

“I did kickball with my fifth graders last year and at the end of the year when I surveyed them they said it was the most special memory,” Pietrzak said. “I want us to have those kind of memories in high school.”

Students so far have loved the idea of doing something new in homeroom.

“I think It’s a good way to relieve a little bit of stress before midterms,” sophomore Olivia Thompson said. “It gives us a way to have fun.”

Most students are happy with a break from routine, while some think there could be some improvements to the game.

“The teachers aren’t doing a great job of giving warnings to us about it, so many kids aren’t prepared to play it,” sophomore Cris Saladino said. “But I think it’s fun and a good way to release some energy in the middle of the day.”

Overall, students say they’re thrilled to play.

“I think it’s cool that they are trying to do something fun in celebration of our excellence,” sophomore Cale Butler said.
