Ashley Himes (10) placed 14th out of 39 runners in the 1600-meter run to pace West Shore at the Merritt Island Invitational track meet Feb. 14.

“I felt like I did well, but could have done better,” Hilmes said. 

Teammate Karina Garridolee (10) also had solid performance.

“I was really happy overall,” Garridolee said. “I competed in the 200m run. I won first place in my heat and placed 14th overall, out of 39 runners,” 

West Shore competed against a surplus of teams from Florida. 

“The competition was hard,” Hilmes said. “I run at almost exactly the same pace as (teammate) Ivy Zheng (10), so we race each other. It’s always a hard race trying to beat her, but so much fun,” 

The next meet will be the Astronaut Developmental Meet at Astronaut High School in Titusville on Feb. 21.
