The girls’ tennis team advanced to the regional tournament on April 22 by placing second at the district tournament held at Fee Avenue on April 14 and 15. After this season of eleven wins and four losses, the team entered districts as the No. 3 seed and battled through competition to qualify for regionals for the first time in four years.
“This team has been like a second family to me,” senior Katherine Arcadier said. “We came into districts with a lot of heart and played our best tennis of the season.
Junior Meghana Geddam shared her thoughts on the regional match.
“Winning or losing doesn’t change how proud I am of this team,” Geddam said. “We fought hard, and you could really see how much we love the game and each other.”
The girls focused on a strategy of aggressive net play and consistent serving. Their efforts paid off with several key match wins, finishing second overall in districts behind Holy Trinity.
At regionals, the team faced Benjamin High School, one of the top tennis programs in Florida.
“They completely destroyed us,” Arcadier said. “We didn’t win a single game, but it’s still impressive that we made it to regionals. We got second place in districts, and I’m proud of the team.”
Despite the loss, the season was a meaningful one for players and coaches alike.
“Regionals is another level higher than districts,” Arcadier said. “Even though we all lost 6–0, we had a really good season. We’re all really proud because we did exceptionally well despite taking a loss.”
