Girls take on Trinity Prep in regional quarterfinal

The girls’ soccer team has the home field advantage for the regional quarterfinals against Trinity Prep tonight at 7.

“It’s nice not having to drive to Orlando for this game,” senior Lauren Dietl said. “Since we’re the home team, we’re hoping to have a lot of fans come out to the game and support us.”

Even though the Lady Wildcats have not advanced beyond this stage of the playoffs in recent years, senior Amanda Farthing remains optimistic about the game.

“We beat them earlier in the season,” Farthing said. “If we all come out ready to play, then I believe we’ll get the result we need.”

The Lady Wildcats shut out Edgewood 4-0 Friday in the Class 2A, District championship to set up tonight’s regional contest.

Junior Jenna Forry scored twice and had two assists and senior Erin Berube and sophomore Ashley Pekmezian scored one goal each.

Farthing and senior Ciera Misner had one assist each.

West Shore goalies Desiree Shields and Haley Keener each logged a save. Edgewood’s Aubrey O’Shaughnessy had 14 saves but could not withstand West Shore’s offensive onslaught.

West Shore improved to 15-4-2, while Edgewood fell to 10-5-4.
