Girls’ soccer to open against Cocoa

Girls’ JV soccer have a scheduled game against Cocoa High School on Tuesday. The game will be starting at 5:30 p.m. and the girls will be arriving around an hour early to start their warm-ups. Obviously expectations of the teams success are high as they came out last year undefeated.

“I think we’re going to do pretty well because we beat them last year,” Reilly Stein (9) said. “Even though we lost a lot of our starters from last year, we also gained some good players so hopefully we do good.”

Despite having changes to the team, some players feel pressured since it is their first game and they came out of an undefeated season.

“I definitely feel pressured because we had a really good team last year,” Kathryn Burgess (10) said. “And coming from such a good season, we don’t want to mess it up also the coaches expect us to keep it going too.”

The team recently had tryouts and only a few adjustments were made as some players moved up to varsity. They lost players such as freshman Bree Ehmer (9) and Catrina Carl (9) and picked up Stein and Skye Kohler (9) who they believe can fill the lost players’ roles.

“Catrina was a really good midfielder and made a lot of good balls to the wings and forwards and Bree was a forward who scored most of our goals,” Kate B. (8) said. “Reilly is really good at defense so that helps with  goals against and Skye is a forward so she [can replace] Bree with scoring.”
