The girls’ varsity lacrosse team ended its season Tuesday night with a 13-12 home loss to Viera High School in the district tournament. The girls finished their inaugural varsity season 4-5-0 after playing as a club team last year. Freshman Mikayla Almeida, who scored during the game, said she was proud of the team and can’t wait for next season.
“We are only a second-year team and are slowly gaining experience and building up the team,” she said. “Viera is a great team and we always enjoy playing them.”
Sophomore Sierra Purden also expressed optimism regarding the team’s future.
“Were are a very determined and phenomenal team, and I think we had a fantastic season and can’t wait for next year,” she said.
Viera Coach Dermot Whelehan complimented the Lady Wildcats after watching the back-and-forth match.
“West Shore played a great game and were outstanding in that they stayed in the game the whole way until the final whistle,” he said.
