Girls’ basketball pounds Covenant

Thanks to junior Victoria D’Esposito’s double-double, the girls’ basketball team trounced the Covenant Christian Lions 38-13 Monday night. D’Esposito scored a team-high 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, helping the Lady Wildcats whallop a Covenant Christian team that was held to a season-low 13 points.

“They were pretty short,” D’Esposito said. “It was pretty easy to shoot over them.”

The team scored only eight points in the first quarter, but rallied to easily put away the Lions.

“Yeah, we stunk in the first half,” D’Espostio said. “But in the second half, when we starting moving the ball and played better defense, we were successful.”

A court surface different from what the Lady Wildcats are used to might have contributed to the slow start.

“They have a carpet court,” said freshman Lydia Kline, who scored five points and dished out five assists.”It’s really weird to play on, and extremely difficult to get used to.”

The Lady Wildcats will take on the Bayside Bears on Wednesdayat 7 p.m. Kline expects an easy win.

“They’re not fanastic,” Kline said “We should, no, we better beat them.”
