Girls’ basketball loses tight game to Cocoa Beach

Senior Mary Billhartz led the girls’ basketball team with 12 points and senior Skylar Johnson scored 11, but it was not enough as the Lady Wildcats fell to Cocoa Beach 38-32 Friday.  The girls were down 32-31 in the last minute of the game when the Lady Minutemen went up 6 more points in the last 30 seconds.

“I think that we definitely could have played better and could have won. Our third quarter is what really brought us down,” Billhartz said. “But we played really hard in the fourth and almost pulled through to tie it.”

The team’s record is currently 2-9 after a week with three losses.

“We’ve been losing a lot lately, and I think it’s been hard for the team,” sophomore Victoria Hahn said. “I hope after the break we can get a little more momentum and get back into the season with a good attitude.”

The next game is away against Celebration on Jan. 7.
